Commonwealth Health Center (CHC) is a 74 bed,
Medicare certified hospital located on the island of Saipan, in the Commonwealth
of
the Northern
Mariana
Islands (CNMI). The two-level hospital opened in 1986. The hospital scope
of services includes an Emergency Department, Obstetrics, Post-partum,
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Adult Intensive Care Unit, Surgical, General
Medicine,
Pediatrics, Dialysis Unit, and various outpatient clinics. It is air conditioned
throughout, with open breezeways and courtyards that lend well to the tropical
climate. It is landscaped with palms, flowering trees, and tropical shrubs.
Commonwealth Health Center currently serves an island population of about
60,000 people, as well as patients from the neighboring Northern Mariana
Islands. The Department of Public Health and CHC provide both inpatient
and outpatient services. Additionally, the Community Guidance Center Division
of the Department of Public Health provides various community health programs.
The Department of Public Health in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana
Islands (CNMI) is a CNMI government owned and operated facility. It is
composed of three main divisions: the Commonwealth Health Center; the Division
of
Public Health; and the Community Guidance Center. The Commonwealth Health
Center and the Division of Public Health are currently located together
on one site, which is located at the intersection of Lower Navy Hill and
Middle
Road. The Community Guidance Center is located on Navy Hill in a separate
facility.
In addition to the health facilities on Saipan, the Department of Public
Health is also responsible for ensuring quality health care is provided
at the health centers on the neighboring islands of Rota and Tinian.
Within each of the divisions are many services and programs designed to
meet the health care needs within the Commonwealth. We hope you will take
a few moments to read more about the programs and services available in the
CNMI.
